iOS 27 battery drain can be frustrating when your iPhone suddenly needs charging much earlier than it did before the update. In many cases, though, increased battery consumption immediately after an iOS update does not mean that the battery itself has developed a problem.
Apple explains that software update tasks can continue running in the background after installation, temporarily affecting both battery life and thermal performance. Apple recommends waiting a few days after an update before evaluating battery performance again.
If your battery is still draining quickly, here are the most common causes and practical iOS 27 battery drain fixes to try.
Why Is iOS 27 Draining My Battery?
Several factors can contribute to iOS 27 battery drain. The most common include background processing after the update, apps running excessively in the background, high display brightness, weak mobile signal, frequent notifications, location intensive apps and an aging battery.
The first step is finding out exactly where your battery power is going.
Go to:
Settings → Battery
iOS 27 shows Daily Usage along with App and System Activity. You can see which apps consume the most battery and whether the activity happened on screen or in the background.
1. Wait a Few Days After Installing iOS 27
Did the iOS 27 battery drain problem start immediately after updating?
Your iPhone may still be completing background tasks related to the software update.
Apple says you may see an Ongoing iOS Update insight under Battery settings while this processing continues. Battery life should return closer to normal after those tasks finish.
Instead of immediately resetting your phone, use it normally for a few days and monitor the Battery section.
2. Find Apps Using Too Much Battery
Sometimes iOS 27 itself isn’t the main problem. A particular application may be consuming excessive power.
Open:
Settings → Battery → View All Battery Usage
Look for apps showing unusually high battery consumption.
Apple’s Battery section can identify usage associated with background activity, notifications, screen time and weak cellular coverage.
If one application stands out, update it through the App Store. If the problem continues, consider reinstalling the app after making sure any important data is backed up.
3. Reduce Background Activity
Apps can continue performing tasks even when you aren’t actively using them.
Examples include syncing photos, fetching mail, tracking location, streaming audio and downloading content.
If Battery settings show substantial background activity for apps you rarely use, review their permissions and background settings.
Reducing unnecessary background activity can be particularly useful when troubleshooting iOS 27 battery issues.
4. Use Low Power Mode
Low Power Mode is one of the simplest ways to extend battery life.
On newer iPhones running iOS 27, go to:
Settings → Battery → Power Mode → Low Power Mode
Low Power Mode reduces or disables some power intensive functions and background activity. Apple notes that certain tasks may run more slowly while it is enabled.
This is useful when you need your iPhone to last longer during travel, work or a busy day.
5. Turn On Adaptive Power
Supported iPhones running iOS 27 can also use Adaptive Power.
Adaptive Power works automatically when your usage is higher than normal. It can make adjustments such as reducing brightness and limiting some background activity to extend battery life. It can also automatically enable Low Power Mode when the battery reaches 20%.
Go to:
Settings → Battery → Power Mode → Adaptive Power
This can be particularly useful if your battery drain varies significantly from one day to another.
6. Reduce Screen Brightness
Your display can consume a substantial amount of battery, particularly when brightness remains high for long periods.
Apple’s Battery Suggestions can specifically identify high screen brightness as a possible reason for increased power consumption.
Try enabling Auto Brightness and reducing brightness manually when maximum brightness isn’t necessary.
You can also shorten Auto Lock so the display doesn’t remain active when the phone isn’t being used.
7. Check Your Mobile Signal
Weak cellular coverage is an easily overlooked cause of iPhone battery drain after iOS 27.
When signal strength is poor, your iPhone may consume additional power trying to maintain or locate a connection.
Apple identifies No Mobile Coverage and Low Signal within Battery usage information as conditions that can affect battery life.
Use Wi Fi when available and consider Airplane Mode when you know you’ll be in an area without cellular coverage for an extended period.
For supported 5G iPhones, using 5G Auto can also help because the phone can switch to LTE when higher 5G speeds do not provide a meaningful benefit.
8. Update Your Apps
Older versions of apps may not always behave optimally after a major iOS update.
Open the App Store and check for available updates.
Developers frequently release compatibility, stability and performance updates around major iOS releases. Keeping applications updated also helps eliminate an outdated app as the source of excessive background activity.
9. Restart Your iPhone
A simple restart is worth trying if iOS 27 battery drain continues after the initial update period.
Restarting can clear temporary software processes and give you a cleaner baseline for monitoring battery consumption.
After restarting, use the phone normally and check Settings → Battery later rather than repeatedly changing multiple settings at once.
This makes it easier to identify what actually improved battery life.
10. Check iPhone Battery Health
If your iPhone is several years old, iOS 27 may not be the only reason you’re noticing shorter battery life.
Rechargeable lithium ion batteries gradually lose capacity as they chemically age. Apple says reduced capacity can result in shorter battery life and lower peak performance.
For iPhone 15 and later:
Settings → Battery → Battery Health
For iPhone 14 and earlier:
Settings → Battery → Battery Health & Charging
If you see a Service recommendation, Apple advises considering battery replacement.
11. Avoid Excessive Heat
Temperature has a major effect on battery health.
Apple says iPhone performs best in an ambient temperature range of around 16°C to 22°C and warns that using or charging the device above 35°C can permanently reduce battery lifespan.
Avoid leaving your iPhone inside a hot vehicle or in direct sunlight.
If your phone becomes too warm during charging, iOS may automatically slow or temporarily pause charging until the temperature returns to a safer level.
12. Use Optimised Battery Charging
Battery drain and battery lifespan are related but different issues.
To protect long term battery health, keep Optimised Battery Charging enabled. The feature learns your charging habits and reduces the amount of time the battery spends fully charged.
On iPhone 15 and later, Charge Limit settings can also help reduce long term battery wear.
These features may not immediately solve an iOS 27 battery drain problem, but they can help maintain battery capacity over time.
